Story

Hello everyone,

So, what am I doing?

I will be driving THREE racing cars around an official track! This is through the amazing charity ABLENET - check them out here: www.ablenet.co.uk

I was booked in for 21st August but due to staffing issues my challenge has been moved to a date in September. More time for fundraising and awareness!

This year marks the 15th anniversary of when I had to give up my driving license and give up driving for good. Until now!! I am so unbelievably excited to be able to get behind a wheel again. Wish me luck!!

Why am I doing it?

I am raising funds for the RNIB as they have supported me so much over the past 20+ years through my degenerative sight loss. I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) in my early twenties, and although it was a huge scary curve-ball in my life at the time and for many years afterwards, I am so thankful for all the support I received from the RNIB, and continue to receive. Only this year I was given a grant for assistive technology to make certain tasks at home and work easier.

One area of the RNIB is the ECLOs - you may have seen this advertised on TV this year. Eye Care Liaison Officers are fundamental to the support, especially for those who have just been diagnosed with a sight loss condition. The funds raised through my challenge will be ring-fenced specifically to help train more ECLO personnel to continue the much needed support.
