KMF Great Glen Canoe Trail Challenge 2023

Story

This September we will join with a group of friends to embark on on a 3-day, 60-mile canoe challenge across the waterways of the Scottish Highlands from Inverness to Fort William an event usually targeted for completion over 5 days. To increase the difficulty, weather permitting, we will attempt the route in reverse so that we will be paddling against the wind throughout. The trail includes navigating our way through 22 miles of man-made Canals and the challenge of portage, manually lifting fully loaded canoes around 14 lock gates on the way. The distance we will need to carry the canoes ranges from 175 to 650 metres. The remaining 38 miles will be covered via sections of the Lochs, Ness, Lochy, Oich and Dochfour linked by rivers Oich, Ness and Lochy! Throughout the challenges the nights will be spent wild camping on the waters edge.

We are constantly inspired by the work of Douglas Macmillan Hospice and want to show our support by raising vital funds for them.
