The Mitchell's fundraiser for Cure Parkinson’s

Mary Mitchell is raising money for Cure Parkinson’s
In memory of Sue Moncrieff

The Three Peaks Challenge · 26 July 2025

2025 marks our 20th anniversary, but we’re not celebrating – we’re walking! As well as joining us on our London walk in September, our amazing Team Cure will be taking on their own coastal walks to raise vital funds for Parkinson's research.

Story

On the 26th July Adam, Mary, Alice and Rory Mitchell will be attempting the National 3 Peaks Challenge – hoping to scale the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales in just 24 hours.

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) – in addition to about 10 hours driving.

We will be raising money for Cure Parkinson's, in memory of mum / granny / Sue Moncrieff. Sue suffered with Parkinson's for nearly 10 years, always trying to keep a positive outlook on life but at the same time struggling with so many Parkinson's symptoms which are often unknown or unspoken about.

I will not forget the day I took her to one of her consultant’s appointments, she sat down opposite him with a cheery smile and told him how happy she was that she had read in The Times that morning about a new cure which had just been discovered for Parkinson's. “Well, not in your lifetime” he retorted rather condescendingly. Well, let’s hope that there will be in our lifetime and we are very grateful for all the wonderful work Cure Parkinson's are doing. If you would like to donate a few £s, we would be very grateful.

=======================================================

2025 will mark 20 years since Cure Parkinson's was founded by four people with Parkinson’s who felt that nobody was taking a cure seriously enough, including Tom Isaacs.

In 2002, Tom set off to walk the 4,500 mile coastline of Britain over the course of a year, to raise the funds that would set up Cure Parkinson’s in 2005. The charity's mission would be to make people believe that a cure was not only possible, but achievable.

Since then, they have funded millions of pounds of research, made scientific discoveries and opened new avenues of research. Despite all this, they don’t yet have a cure, and so their goal remains unchanged: to consign Parkinson’s to medical history.
