Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

Story

MK NORDIC WALKING are supporting PROSTATE CANCER UK in 2026

We will be organising various Nordic Walking Events throughout the year for ALL our walkers to take part in, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for Prostate Cancer UK.

The first on our list is a "Snowdon Sunrise Nordic Walk" in April!

This is going to be a VERY early start! Head torches, poles, various clothing layers (for every eventuality!) and, of course, SNACKS! We'll be nordic walking up the Llanberis path, in the dark, with the aim to watch the late April sun rise over Snowdonia! For safety, we will be walking with a mountain guide.

We did it!! After a 1.30am start, head torches on, we walked the Llanberis path, one of the safer routes to walk in the dark. Most of our group had never walked Snowdon before, so, this was a true adventure! Our mountain guide Tom from "Walk Snowdonia" was absolutely amazing! Friendly, knowledgeable and supportive, he described our route, warned us of potential, tricky and dangerous areas.

After saying goodbye to our companion, the moon, we watched the glimmers of a new day emerge all around us. Silhouettes emerged from the darkness and we gradually turned off head torches letting our eyes adjust to the new light. We reached the summit just after 5am, took the obligatory "Trig" photos, then settled down, just below the summit to take in the beauty of the world below us - WOWW!

Sunrise 5.50am. We were soo incredibly lucky with the weather, as you'll see from the photos. Clear skies, cool, but not too cold (except at the summit! that was freezing cold!) and one of the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen.

Then it was time to descend! This was just as hard, if not harder, than the walk up as the knees started protesting! Taking in all the breath-taking scenery that we had missed on the way up. We watched the little train slowly chug its way up the mountain, delivering supplies, still too early for the tourist trips.

The path is rough, rocky and hard on tired legs, but our hearts were filled with joy and excitement at what we had just achieved! Lots of friendly hello's to other walkers just starting out, we headed in to Llanberis for the biggest breakfast we could find!

Watch this space for more events, please feel free to SHARE our fundraising page to anyone who you think would be interested in showing their support to our group fundraising mission in 2026. This page will be live for the whole of 2026, covering ALL our events. We are fundraising as an MK NORDIC WALKING GROUP, we'd love you to show your support, whatever you can afford is hugely appreciated!

Sadly, I think soo many of us know someone who has been affected by PROSTATE CANCER. Early detection is vital for positive results. Every year, 10,000 men are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer too late to be cured. That's why PROSTATE CANCER UK are launching the "Transform Trial", a £42 million research programme to find the best way to screen men for prostate cancer.

Imagine a world where all men at risk are invited for regular checks to detect aggressive cancers early, when they can be cured. That's the goal of Prostate Cancer UK.

Early diagnosis could REDUCE DEATHS BY 40%, saving thousands of lives.

So, to ALL our chaps out there - dads, uncles, brothers, husbands, partners, friends, ALL OF YOU! don't delay, don't ignore symptoms if something is not quite right - contact your GP and ask to be tested!

Every fundraiser and EVERY donation, no matter how big or small, is helping fund vital research and provide support services for men and their families.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
