Story
Hey hey! I’m Rhi from MLC Studio and this July I’m back to run another 10k - this time with Max - all to raise money for the amazing games charity very special to our whole team, SpecialEffect!
Last year, Hannah and I raised over £500 thanks to everyone’s generous donations, and the overall fundraising total for SpecialEffect hit an incredible £23,000!! Maybe we can beat it this year?!
Strava’s redownloaded, and the two of us have already started our training. And there's a crucial difference this time! After an MRI, I found out instead of suspected knee tendonitis, it’s actually (brace yourself) patellar chondral degeneration. It’s with me for life, but thankfully it’s not stopping me from running, which means I can actually train properly this year (instead of doing just two 3k runs before the race like last time! That was interesting). As such, we’re aiming to run a much faster time – and now that I've said it out loud, I guess we’ve committed. Sub-1 hour is our goal and I really believe we can do it!
Between us, we’ve worked in the games industry for almost 10 years and have always admired the amazing work the SpecialEffect team does, and the people behind it are just wonderful having spent lots of time with them IRL. They help make video games accessible to people with disabilities by adapting technology to individual needs, enabling everyone to play, connect and enjoy the magic of games. SpecialEffect holds a special place in our hearts, and we’re proud to support them again. This run is our way of helping them continue their incredible work.
Big thank you if you're able to donate to support this genuinely beautiful charity. Every donation means the world and gives everyone involved that extra push to keep going.
Let's do this!
The London 10k is SpecialEffect's longest standing fundraising event and has grown from a handful of runners taking part in 2009 to over 150 taking part in the 2024 event. Join us in our fundraising efforts to aid SpecialEffect in their mission of helping people with physical disabilities access technology, optimising inclusion, enjoyment and quality of life.
