Story
Our very own group of intrepid MMS sailors are raising money for a wonderful and important charity, Sue Ryder.
18th July - Bedford Dragon Race - your support for this wonderful cause would be amazing.
Below is a little story to show why this charity is so important to so many.
For Sue Ryder 💛
On Tuesday afternoons, the kettle always boiled twice.
Once for the tea, and once because no one remembered it had already boiled.
Margaret used to laugh about that. She’d say, “It doesn’t matter—time isn’t in charge anymore.”
That was before illness began quietly rearranging her days.
When the world started to shrink, the Sue Ryder nurses didn’t rush in with answers or fixes. They arrived with time. With listening. With a calm that felt like someone gently holding the day still.
They noticed the small things: the way Margaret liked her cardigan buttoned just so; how her husband David needed permission to rest; how silence sometimes said more than words ever could. They sat at the bedside when memories blurred, and they sat in the kitchen when tears finally spilled over.
There was dignity in those moments. And kindness. And humour, even at the end—especially at the end.
One afternoon, the kettle boiled again. David sighed.
Margaret smiled.
A nurse smiled too—and poured the tea anyway.
That’s what Sue Ryder does.
They don’t just care for people at the end of life.
They care for life right up to the end.
Your donation helps fund those quiet moments that never make headlines but mean everything to the people living them.
A hand held.
A breath eased.
A family supported when the world feels unbearably heavy.
Because everyone deserves compassion, comfort, and dignity—every step of the way.
Thank you for helping make that possible.
