Update!
Delighted to say that we made it round in 4.43! The weather was perfect with lots of sun but a cool breeze meant running conditions were spot on. The crowds were fantastic and the whole day was thoroughly enjoyable. We ran together the entire way and somehow managed to spur each other on.
Thank you so much for your incredible support! We’re over the moon with the total we’ve raised so far. This will make a huge difference to the local branches of the MND Association in Manchester and Cheshire
On Sunday 10th May, the three musketeers (Grant Berry, Tim Morris and Bruce Murray) will take on the (very hilly) challenge of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. We have already run both the New York (2019) and London (2023) marathons together, so Leeds will complete the “trilogy”! We can assure you that these challenges do not get any easier as “Father Time” catches up with the three of us…
Sadly, Grant’s wife Joanna was diagnosed aged 53 with an early onset, rare dementia (frontotemporal dementia or FTD) in 2021 and was then subsequently diagnosed with motor neurone disease in the summer of 2025. Joanna’s formal diagnosis is now FTD MND and her condition continues to deteriorate by the day but she is surrounded by love and care. Having raised substantial funds for dementia charities, it feels only fitting to turn our attention to this new terminal disease which Jo is now battling with such courage and grace. Grant and their three children (Josie, George and Edward) continue to be amazed at how she is coping with the incredibly difficult hand she’s been dealt.
Training for the Leeds marathon is in full swing. There have been several long runs (15/16 miles plus) despite the fact that we only decided to commit to the run six weeks ago. It’s hard work we can assure you, but we are determined to complete the course with as respectable a time as we can muster!
Rest assured that JustGiving will send your donation directly to the MND Association. We have requested that the proceeds are split equally between the Cheshire branch and the Manchester branch of the MND Association.
Please do consider donating to support us on this venture. Thank you so much from all of us.
Grant, Tim and Bruce
