Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page and for supporting my fundraising project.
Following a recent diagnosis of prostate cancer to someone I know, I have decided to try and raise awareness for this horrible disease by trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro! I have wanted to do this challenge for decades and have been putting it off for no real reason other than “I’ll do it one day.” That was until recently when his story gave me that kick up the backside to go and do it! It’s going to test my physical and mental strength like nothing else. This will put an enormous strain on my body following a number of back and foot injuries as well as 2 shoulder surgeries over the past few decades that I continue to battle with. But this is insignificant compared to the challenges that people living with prostate cancer have to endure. I am supporting Macmillan as they give people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.
His story has urged those close to him to get themselves checked. I have and I’m fortunate to be one of the seven but sadly 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK. That’s thousands of Dad’s, partners, brothers, Grandad’s, uncles and mates. Seeing what he has to go through everyday motivates me to try my hardest to do the best I can.
Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that’s more than 12,000 men every year. 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. and around 490,000 men are living with prostate cancer. I would be grateful to anyone who can donate; to raise financial support to Macmillan UK, fund further research and to help those affected, so let’s get behind him an beat cancer! And even if you are unable to donate, please ask those men in your lives to get themselves checked. The earlier you find it, the easier it is to treat.
So let’s get behind him and knock Prostate Cancer for six.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your donation directly to the charity.
