Story
Rusty and Bertie, who bring so much joy to so many people, are again raising funds for Hounds for Heroes on the Dundee Kiltwalk. We know how much emotional and practical support dogs can bring to their people and so enjoy supporting Hounds for Heroes.
Hounds for Heroes provides specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled personnel of HM Armed Forces and of the Emergency Services. The charity trains dogs to provide help and practical support to meet the specific needs of the individual they are paired with, leading to an enhanced quality of life.
Both Rusty and Bertie have had serious challenges this year. Bertie is currently recovering from his second major surgery and working hard in the hydrotherapy pool to get fit enough for August 17th. Rusty has had two surgeries on his knee since February and is due to have the implant removed in May, when he too can start hydrotherapy. We are slowly building up his walking in weekly 5 minute increments.
This year, Granny Moira will not manage the distance in one go but plans to do the 4.5 miles in short stages in the weeks leading up to the walk. She will be an important part of the cheerleading squad on the day and will be there to meet us at the finish.
All going well, Rusty and Bertie should be sufficiently recovered to do the Wee Wander on 17th August. We are encouraging all their able-bodied human friends to walk with us or sponsor us. It is also a significant birthday for Alyson in July and instead of gifts she is asking family and friends to join in the Kiltwalk and raise funds for Hounds for Heroes.
