Team: Surrey Three Peaks Charity Hike

Surrey 3 Peaks · 29 March 2026

Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. Our mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. These serious mental illnesses ruin and, too often, take lives. Our Helpline is available online or by phone for anyone suffering, as well as their family and friends.

Story

Hey! You might remember in 2024 myself and my auntie, Lianne, took part in the London Winter Walk to raise money and awareness for BEAT, the UK's Eating Disorder Charity. On Sunday 29th March 2026, I will be taking part in the Surrey Three Peaks Challenge with other University of Surrey students, staff and their friends. This is an 8 to 10 hour hike across three classic Surrey Hills: Box Hill, Holmbury Hill and Leith Hill. The total ascent is 1,060m, and for many in the group, it will be their very first hike — making it a real personal challenge as well as a collective one!

The Yoga Society at University of Surrey, organisers of this event, have chosen to divide all funds between Dementia UK and Beat UK, both close the hearts of members — having personally supported them or their families face dementia related end of life or eating disorder related therapy.

Personally BEAT provided me with invaluable support during the some of the worst times of my Eating Disorder, so it is an honour to raise awareness and much needed funding for a second time so they can continue to facilitate the support I was fortunate enough to receive. Additionally, my grandad currently suffers from Dementia and I previously lost my grandma, Betty, to Dementia so it feels special to fundraise for Dementia UK.

Dementia UK provides vital specialist support to families navigating the devastating effects of dementia — a condition that will affect 1in 2 of us in our lifetime. Beat UK does exceptional work supporting those living with eating disorders. With an estimated 1.25 million people in the UK affected, and cases rising significantly among young University students like ourselves, their work has never been more needed.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps these charities continue bringing life-changing light into families' lives across the country. If you're able to contribute, the team would be truly grateful — your generosity makes a real difference.

Together, we’ll help support those silently affected by dementia and eating disorder related cases 💜
