Story
This Saturday myself and 29 other members of staff will be taking part in a 5k obstacle course to raise money for Mary Hare School’s latest fundraising project - which will provide fantastic facilities to our young people... please have a read below.
This is not my ‘usual activity of choice’ so any donation would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Mary Hare School is the largest national school for deaf children and young people aged 4 – 18 and a registered charity (number 1002680) Most pupils are residential as they live too far from home. The school provides a language-rich teaching environment, specialising in speaking and listening English, without the use of Sign Language in the classroom.
The main school was built in the 1950s and has been added to and developed since then as the numbers of pupils have grown: 1946 - 22 pupils and now averages 200. The sports facilities currently comprise a small 1950S gym, swimming pool, grass sports pitches, basic changing rooms that are inadequate in size and facility. Neither the gym nor the changing rooms are fully accessible. We want to build a sports hall providing:
GROUND FLOOR
4-court Sports Hall and Storage
4 x changing rooms (15 person per room)
4 x flexi changing rooms (accessible/assisted/staff)
PE Staff work base
Coffee point and Laundry
Foyer
FIRST FLOOR
Sports Classroom
Small Group Room
Dance & Drama studio
Fitness room
EXTERIOR
Under 16 sized MUGA
These new facilities will be acoustically treated to meet the needs of our deaf pupils. We want to raise £5 million towards the costs so your help is needed. Thank you!
