Story
Steven and I are running the 45th Dublin City Marathon in aid of HHT Ireland on 25 October (just a few short weeks away). This will be double the longest distance either of us had run before signing up for it and, as relatively new runners, it is safe to say we are both finding it quite challenging.
It means a lot to me to be running my first marathon in Dublin. I am on home turf and, more importantly, I am following in the footsteps of my big cousin Paul and uncle David (who both ran the same marathon before me).
Paul died suddenly from HHT at 22 years of age. It came as a huge shock to our family and is a loss we are still dealing with today. I (and all the younger cousins) found Paul to be the coolest guy in the room. We all wanted to be like him and do whatever he was doing. It is especially important to me that I am training for this challenge in his memory and in support of HHT Ireland.
HHT Ireland provides vital support to individuals and families affected by HHT as well as working to raise awareness of this rare disease and to assist with identifying undiagnosed individuals. My family members have both been instrumental in setting up this support, particularly my aunt Dara, and have also significantly benefited from it.
Any donations of any size to support this crucial work are much appreciated. Equally, if you can spare some time, please do take a moment to read about the symptoms so you can raise your awareness and that of others in the future.
