Story
I am super excited to be running the Manchester Half Marathon in October 2024 to raise money for Greater Manchester Youth Network.
I've never ran further than 11k so to double this distance is going to be a good challenge to end 2024 with!
I have always had a passion for working with young people and have been fortunate to volunteer with so many inspiring people across the North. As a volunteer with GMYN I have seen first-hand the amazing work they do with young people, to help them transition to adulthood feeling supported, positive and valued.
I have been lucky enough to have had my own supportive bubble around me during my own transition to adulthood and understand the privilege of this. Every young person deserves a chance.
GMYN key focus is to support young people who face particular challenges, including young people with experience of the care system, young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, young people with special educational needs and disabilities, unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, and young people who are not ready for work.
£20 pays for a young person’s transport to access our activities for a week
£50 pays for a football and music session for young people to develop skills
£250 pays for an activity for 15 young people in care to develop teamwork skills
£500 could provide one young person with essential equipment such as tools, university books, or a uniform that enables them to begin a new training course, access further education or work
And, if you wanted any more info on volunteering with GMYN I can point you in the right direction! There is so much to be gained as a volunteer and much more you can provide to the people who need it most.
