Story

Molly, Jody, Rebecca, Hannah and Steph’s Mam Tor Challenge

Working on the Yorkshire and Humber Mother and Baby Unit, we support Mums experiencing severe mental health difficulties. To support and raise money for this wonderful charity, myself and my wonderful MBU colleagues will be taking part in the Mam Tor Challenge ran by Blue Sky Adventures on Saturday 21st June 2025. This is an 8 mile/13km circular walk, including Mam Tor and passing through the village of Hope.

What is Postpartum psychosis?

Postpartum psychosis (PP) is a severe but treatable form of mental illness that begins suddenly in the days and weeks after having a baby. It can be frightening and shocking for the mum experiencing it, her partner and her family.

Some people who get PP have no previous history of mental illness. If you have had a history of bipolar disorder you have a higher risk of getting PP.

For some people the illness develops very quickly and it is obvious that something is wrong. For others, things can happen more gradually.

PP can get worse very quickly and should always be considered as a medical emergency.

What is APP?

Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) is a UK charity. APP support and make sure mums, parents and families are supported through postpartum psychosis. APP offer information and peer support, facilitate ground breaking research, raise awareness and campaign for improved services.

APP's life changing peer support network helps women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.

We are asking for your support in our fundraising efforts with a target of £500 to help APP continue their vital work. Your contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by postpartum psychosis.
