Montague walks in aid of The ITP Support Association

Montague P is raising money for ITP Support Association

Coast 2 Coast Hike · 28 March 2026

The ITP Support Association is the sole UK registered charity supporting and representing the interests of patients, and the families of patients, with Immune Thrombocytopenia (formerly known as Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura), and funding research into the causes and best management of ITP. The ITP Support Association was formed in 1995 to provide information and a support network for adults, and parents of children, with ITP. Immune Thrombocytopenia is a frightening rare bleeding disorder in which the body’s immune system destroys platelets in the blood. Unlike autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and MS it is not progressive as the risk of bleeding exists from the day the disease develops. It can arise in anyone at any age, and affects three to four thousand adults and children in the UK. Its symptoms vary from one sufferer to another but include nose bleeds, mouth blisters, heavy periods, large multi colour bruises, petechiae, fatigue and, on rare occasions, internal bleeding. Treatments, which all have their dangers and drawbacks, are not always effective in raising the platelet count, and only rarely cure the disease.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I will try to post updates during my walk at : https://www.instagram.com/montaguewalks?igsh=MWpoY3Q0OXhyOHpzbQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

I’m Montague. In March 2026, I plan to do a 292 km Coast to Coast walk from 28 March to 11 April, to raise money for The ITP Support Association.

When I was a baby, I had a condition called Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP). This means the white blood cells in my body which normally fight off infections, went a bit crazy and attacked my own body by mistake. They destroyed all my platelets which meant blood started to leak out from blood vessels. I was covered in bruises and my mouth bled when I drank milk. I used to wear a rugby scrum cap to protect my brain from bleeding. I don’t remember it, but my parents do, and they’ve told me how worrying it was at the time. I am now a very healthy, sporty 10-year-old. I love playing rugby, running, and going on expeditions. I feel so lucky, so I have decided to do something challenging to raise awareness of this condition and help other children and families dealing with ITP today.

The ITP Support Association is an independent UK charity that helps people with ITP and their families. They provide practical information and support, and work with doctors to improve care through research funding, guidance, and specialist events. https://itpsupport.org.uk

If you can donate, I would really appreciate it. Even a small amount helps. If you cannot donate, please share my page with someone else, and I am always happy to receive messages to keep me motivated!

Thank you for supporting my walk and for supporting the ITP Support Association.
