Story
Montefiore has been a trusted partner of Riverdale for over a decade. Throughout this long-standing relationship, we have collaborated on numerous impactful initiatives. They have generously hosted our students for events at their Kingsbridge location, and just last year, Dr. Loeb personally visited our Middle School meeting to speak with students about his work. We are also incredibly fortunate to collaborate with Montefiore during Project Week, where they design and lead an exceptional medial program that our students absolutely love!
For the last 20 years, Dr. Loeb of Montefiore and his team have been studying a specific protein (called DDX3) that helps bone cancer cells stay alive. I am thrilled to share that the FDA just approved his team to start clinical trials on a new drug they developed to block this protein. Starting this January, they will begin testing this treatment in patients—both children and adults—with bone tumors. The trials will start at the University of Colorado, followed by Montefiore Einstein which will be the only location on the East Coast!
While the clinical trial is moving forward, Dr. Loeb's graduate student is working behind the scenes in the lab to figure out exactly how this drug kills cancer cells. This crucial research will help them combine their new drug with other treatments to make it even more powerful.
Because this specific lab project currently has no government or charity funding, your support makes all the difference. Your contribution will directly determine whether they can move this life-saving research forward or if it will have to stop.
Any amount you are comfortable giving will mean the world to Dr. Loeb and his team. We have the incredible privilege of standing by Dr. Loeb and directly supporting this groundbreaking research and making a huge difference in the world as a Riverdale community.
Go Riv!
