Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit MEP's JustGiving page.

Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia - it's one of the biggest health challenges of our time. Families affected are often left feeling exhausted and overwhelmed and don’t know where to turn. But with the support of Dementia UK, families facing the fear and confusion of dementia know they’re not alone. Dementia UK provides Admiral Nurses, who give free, life-changing support and advice to anyone affected by dementia.

MEP has chosen Dementia UK as its charity of the year. Like so many others, a number of our team have lost loved ones through this terrible disease.

In May 2024, the whole MEP team are taking on the Coast-to-Coast bike challenge; an iconic 3 day, west to east cycling route which starts and finishes at the sea. We know it is a major challenge; starting in the Lake District, climbing up onto the Pennines and finishing at Tynemouth, the route encompasses some of the highest and hardest climbs in the country, often several of them in a day! Total distance is 136 miles on road with long sections of bike path and gravel track. Average daily distance is 40-55 miles over a three-day period. The total elevation gain is an eyewatering 11800ft or 3600m. Adding to this challenge is the unpredictability of the British weather which can change dramatically from one day to the next, actually from one hour to the next.

Training is key, and the MEP team has been out in all weathers; braving rain and wind, biking around the Cotswold hills.

Please support us in this adventure, your donations will help fund vital dementia support and research.

Thankyou.
