Autumn Craft Afternoon · 5 October 2025

St. David's Hospice Care provides free community-based hospice care to people with cancer or any other life threatening illness living in Gwent and Mid/South Powys. Your donations help us to provide the services that give patients a real choice about where they spend their final days.

Story

By being a part of our Autumn Craft Workshop you are not only getting a great afternoon of craft and fun but also supporting the amazing work of St David's Hospice Care's Unicorn Service.

The Unicorn project was established in September 2009 with funding from BBC Children in Need. The service aims to help children and young people to access the support they need to manage the impact on them when a significant adult in their lives is seriously ill or has died

The service works with children and their families to help them find ways to communicate and express emotions safely. Research shows that children need to be involved in what is happening when an important person in their lives experiences a life-threatening illness.

The service includes: • Individual Assessment

• Support for children and young people up to the age of 18

• 1 to 1 bereavement support

• Bereavement support groups

• Facilitation family discussions

• Resource loan scheme

• A confidential & non-judgemental approach

In the last year (2024/2025) 375 families were referred to the Unicorn Service, this equated to 1,269 separate sessions
