Morris's 100km Balkans trek for mental health

Morris Miao is raising money for The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand

Team: Balkans Mind over Mountains

Mind over Mountains 2026 - Peaks of the Balkans

Like physical health, mental health is something we all have, and we need to look after it. After all, there is no health without mental health. For almost 50 years the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand has been the leading charity promoting good mental health and wellbeing and the rights of those experiencing mental health challenges. We uplift. And we fight. We campaign hard so anyone experiencing mental distress gets respect and support. We strive to reach everyone in Aotearoa and have a measurable impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

Story

This autumn I walked 100km in six days across the Peaks of the Balkans, through Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania, with nearly 100 current and former McKinsey colleagues. We crossed borders more than ten times and got each other through some very rocky days.

The trek was organised by Treks for Charity, a grassroots initiative run by colleagues for colleagues. Everyone paid their own way, so what you give goes to the charity, not the trip.

I'm raising money for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. New Zealand is where I studied and started my career. Since 1977 the Foundation has been the country's independent voice for better mental health, providing free support for people going through a tough time and running campaigns such as Mental Health Awareness Week.

Any amount helps. Thank you for reading, and for giving if you can.
