Story

Sometimes the coffee machine chat at Marine Resources HQ is about what you had for dinner last night, sometimes it can be a discussion about a client. However sometimes it can be where some of the most brilliant and/or crazy ideas get created.

That's exactly what happened earlier this year when the idea of a group of us getting together to take on a challenge came up. Being an adventurous lot who don't ever shy away from going BIG, we came up with the Marine Resources 3 Peaks Challenge. Tackling the 3 biggest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales non stop in just 24 hours.

On Friday 9th June Tom Scott, Miriam Monteith, Jo Priestley, James Ward and Mike Pleydell will set off on this epic adventure.

Tom, Miriam, Jo, James will take their first strides hiking approx 5 hours up the biggest mountain in Scotland Ben Nevis (4413 ft). They will summit and hike back down as quickly as they can before jumping in the team van and being driven by Support Manager Mike, 6 hours to the largest mountain in England Scafell Pike (3209 ft). Once Scafell is conquered in hopefully around 4 hours they will return to the van once more piloted by Mike, 5 hours to the largest Mountain in Wales Snowdon (3560 ft) which they will attempt to summit as a full team and return in just 3 hours.

The team are attempting to take on the challenge as sustainably as possible. This will be done by driving up to Scotland and back from Wales rather than flying. Avoiding single use plastics wherever possible with eating and drinking throughout the challenge and even attempting a litter pick on the way down each peak.

We are not experienced hikers so this is a huge challenge, made even more difficult by choosing to do it unaided with no guide. So all the navigation will be up to the team, again another big challenge, especially when hiking at night, which cant be avoided to complete the 3 peaks in 24 hours.

We will be raising money to support The Final Straw Foundation our official charity partners at Marine Resources, who do incredible work helping to raise awareness around plastic pollution in our oceans through working with local businesses and schools. So if you are able to donate anything towards the challenge it would be very appreciated. All donations will go to the charity only.
