Running for Rhodri: London Marathon 2025

Charmaine Rees is raising money for Shooting Star Children's Hospices

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

The London Marathon is a truly iconic event attracting athletes of all abilities from around the globe. Every year, thousands of runners choose to take on this fantastic challenge to raise vital funds for charity.

Story

It is 5 years since our son, Rhodri, was born with multiple complications which meant he had a very short life expectancy. When we were told this heart breaking news we were offered end of life care at Christopher's Hospice in Guildford where we were able to spend time as a family and make every moment count. After weeks of stress in hospital, it felt like we were bringing our son to a peaceful place to say goodbye.

I would like to continue fundraising for Shooting Stars Children's hospices so that they can continue to provide vital support for families in need. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, they exist to make every moment count supporting families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement.

For those that know me, I am not a runner, I am a cyclist and this is a huge challenge. I feel honoured to have place in the London Marathon - a city I have called home for the last 15 years. It is also my 40th birthday this year - what better way to mark the moment!

We have 2 young boys at home and it is important to me to show them that no matter what you have to overcome in life, you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.

Let's make every moment count, together, for short lives.
