Story

Urgent Appeal: Support for Floods in Libya

On Monday 11 September, Storm Daniel hit Libya which triggered catastrophic floods in 3 Eastern cities, after two dams reportedly burst nearby. The floods have left a death toll of 6,000 and 8,000 injured to date.

Reports have shown that up to 100,000 people have been displaced as entire neighbourhoods are thought to have been swept away. As rescue missions persist, these numbers are likely to rise in the coming days as the full impact of the disaster becomes clear.

British Red Cross Efforts

The British Red Cross has launched an integrated response to affected populations in Libya via the local Libyan Red Crescent teams, who were on the ground immediately responding to the earthquake and flood, providing urgent medical care and emergency supplies to those impacted f. They are supporting with:

· Search, evacuation and rescue

· Provision of water, food, shelter and hygiene kits

· First aid and transportation of injured people to hospital

· Psychosocial support

· Providing first aid

How MUFG employees can help

In alignment with MUFG's core principles and commitment to CSR, we are supporting two appeals from the British Red Cross.

Employees can support the urgent response efforts by contributing to the British Red Cross through this MUFG JustGiving page, and MUFG will match donations accordingly.   MUFG donations will be matched, therefore increasing the impact of your support.
