London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Salaam Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am reaching out to you with a hopeful spirit. This April, I will be running the London Marathon in memory of my two beloved daughters, Saarah and Umaymah, who sadly passed from this world due to congenital heart disease. Their loss has left an indelible mark on my life, and I am determined to honour their memory by raising funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Why the British Heart Foundation?

The BHF is at the forefront of groundbreaking research into congenital heart disease, a condition that affects around 13 babies every day in the UK. Their work is crucial in understanding the causes, improving diagnosis, and developing treatments for this devastating condition. For instance, Professor Claudio Stern at University College London is investigating the signals from cells surrounding the developing heart to uncover what causes heart defects in babies.

Impact on Minority Communities

Heart disease does not discriminate, but it does affect some communities more than others. Research funded by the BHF has shown that Black Africans, African Caribbeans, and South Asians in the UK are at a higher risk of developing heart and circulatory diseases compared to White Europeans. This disparity is due to a combination of genetic, environmental, and socio-economic factors. The BHF is committed to understanding these differences and finding ways to reduce the risk and improve outcomes for everyone, regardless of their background.

How Your Donations Will Be Used

Your generous donations will directly support the British Heart Foundation's vital work. Funds will be allocated to research, support services and awareness campaigns.

Your support can make a significant difference. By donating to my fundraising page, you will be contributing to vital research that could save lives and prevent other families from experiencing the heartbreak that mine has endured. Every pound you donate will go towards funding research, supporting patients, and raising awareness about heart disease.

Together, we can make a difference. Let's honor the memory of Saarah and Umaymah by supporting the British Heart Foundation and their mission to beat heartbreak forever. Thank you for your generosity and support.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Muhammad Mulla
