Brighton Football Marathon · 20 July 2024 ·

The Football Marathon is the ultimate test of skill and endurance! Now in its 22nd year, the event has raised over £2.1 million to support Tackle's work.

Story

Our love for football has reached new heights as we take on the first ever Women's and Non-binary Tackle Football Marathon in our home city. 12 hours, 20-25 games of football, covering similar distances to the London Marathon, we had better start stocking up on blister plasters and energy drinks*!

We know it's going to be a gruelling physical challenge or, in Skip's words" the perfect preseason session" but we'll enjoy it as a team, knowing we're raising money for an incredible charity!

Tackle is a charity which uses the power and popularity of football to deliver HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services to young people on football pitches across the Africa. They use football drills that are designed to be fun and interactive, so young people learn about sexual health through play, in a way they enjoy, remember and understand. They empower people to make safer and more informed decisions which can limit the impact of HIV and poor sexual health.

Whether you're able to donate or just post a few words of wisdom/luck, we'd be incredibly appreciative of your support!

*seriously though, if you know anyone in the energy drink or blister plaster industry and could get us a some supplies, that would be phenomenal!

What impact does my donation actually have?

• £5 pays for a Tackle coaching manual to help train coaches to deliver crucial health messages.

• £10 funds a youth health counsellor to attend one of our tournaments and help young people learn their HIV status.

• £20 buys a locally produced football with health messages printed on it.

• £50 pays for a team to attend a tournament with youth-friendly HIV testing and free condoms.

• £200 pays for a coach to be fully trained, resourced and supported to deliver a year’s coaching with a team of 30 young Africans.

What's more, we've been offered the opportunity to have any donations we bring in between now and the 20th July to be matched, so any donation will go twice as far!
