Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page supporting the MND Association.
My dad Carl Williams got diagnosed with MND in February 2023 and sadly passed on 16th January 2024. In memory of him, and to raise money and awareness for MND Association, specifically the Manchester Branch which helped my dad so much, Brian and I are taking on the 100km challenge on the weekend of June 7th and 8th in the Lake District Challenge. 100km each, 200km total, up and down hills come rain or shine. My dad always loved the outdoors and the Lake District was one of his and my mum’s favourite places to go together or with the grandchildren.
If you were lucky enough to have met my dad then you will have experienced his positivity and enthusiasm in abundance, whether it be a brief encounter or a lengthy chat (usually with a supporting pint glass filled with a real ale or IPA). His zest for life was infectious. He had a smile for everyone. He could turn your bad day into great within minutes; he could talk about anything and everything -his knowledge on any given subject seemed endless, but he would never preach, he would always listen, and he could be a guiding influence without you really getting how he did it. Hopefully you will all have had these little moments with him - singular, or many of them - but each I know will have put a smile on your face and a warmth inside that my dad Carl could impart effortlessly.
Dad really wanted to give back to the charity for everything they did for him, and I promised I’d help him do it. It is only recently that I feel I have come out of the fog enough to step up to something challenging, and I feel this is a pretty big one for us both.
I know money is tight for everyone right now, but any support you can give will be greatly appreciated and will help spur us on for the charity.
Whether you were a student, a colleague, a person on a bus that he’d strike up a conversation with; a friend, a close friend, a relative, or a person pulling his pint, I hope that Carl made the lasting impression on you and that you keep a small part of him with you.
Thank you in advance, love Karen and Brian.
