Birds of Poole Harbour was set up in 2013 to boost the profile of bird conservation, education & observation in the Poole Harbour area. We specialise in high standard people engagement work and broader conservation projects & species research, including monitoring & analysis of bird populations.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Mya Bambrick - I'm a bird-obsessed young naturalist, ecology and conservation student, writer, and content creator based in Poole, Dorset.

In celebration of my 22nd birthday, I've set myself a challenge. I'm going to be walking 22 miles around Poole Harbour in a day. Whilst doing so, I'll be trying to see as many bird species as possible as well as vlogging along the way. On the route, I'll be stopping off at some of Poole Harbour's best birding spots. This challenge is in aid of raising money for a local charity, Birds of Poole Harbour.

Over the past Summer I've had the privilege to work for this amazing environmental charity, Birds of Poole Harbour. Despite being a small team of just 5, the conservation and engagement work they do is just incredible.

They work hard on various local conservation projects, including previously on the Osprey Translocation project which has enabled a breeding pair to establish, CJ7 and 022. I spent the Summer leading Carey Osprey Tours, showing the public this pair alongside their 4 chicks!

At the moment they're in the early stages of setting up a reintroduction of Chough on the Purbeck coast. One of their key missions is to enthuse and inspire the public with Poole Harbour's birdlife and conservation importance. They do this through running harbour boat safaris, nightjar walks, osprey cruises, pop-up events, school bird boats, and much, much more.

The money raised would go towards the charity continuing this work alongside exciting new projects. I've seen first hand how this charity can truly inspire the public to care and take an interest in our natural world, whilst working hard behind the scenes to aid nature recovery locally through their conservation work.
