Story
28th September 2018 and 10th November 2023
Not once but twice Myla has fought for her life along with our hospital heroes Professor Mark Danton and Dr Patrick Noonan to mend Myla’s perfectly imperfect little heart.
Myla being able to take on this challenge for a charity that means the world to us is nothing short of amazing, here are some of the things Myla has been through in her 6 little years of life as a cardiology patient…
Blue lighted by Scotstar paediatric retrieval, diagnosis - severe narrowing of the aorta (Coarctation of the Aorta) and large muscular VSD’s, heart failure, 6 hour thoracotomy surgery, end-to-end anastomosis, PA band placement, numerous blood transfusions, pneumothorax (collapsed lungs), PICU stays, physiotherapy, dietician weekly reviews, high calorie diet, feeding tubes, lots of ECHO’s, high flow nasal cannula, cardiac CT scan, daily meds, lots of blood draws and failed ones, Posterolateral thoracotomy and Midline sternotomy scars, triple lumen central lines, arterial lines, chest drains, infections, oxygen, cannulas, 14 hour open heart surgery, hybrid catheter intervention, heart bypass, ruptured pulmonary artery, PA band removal, VSD device closure, life support machine, numerous intubations and extubations (planned and unplanned), pacing wires, 100’s of clinic visits, upset and distress but we have watched Myla overcome every single one of the above like the star that she is and still after all of that if you had to ask Myla about the hospital firstly before anything else she would tell you how fun the play rooms are, there’s so many toys, lots of craft activities, how fun the play leaders are, how lucky she is to go to hospital and none of this would be possible without the support of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. The work, support and funding they provide throughout the hospital network is nothing short of outstanding and Myla would like to give a little back by taking on the challenge of stride the Clyde 106 miles in June 2025.
And even after all of the above Myla’s dream still remains “when I grow up I want to be a heart Doctor just like Dr Noonan”
We couldn’t be prouder if we tried,
Myla Ailie Burns, our superstar.
Together let’s make a difference💜🌟
