We share our lives with cats. They bring happiness to millions of us every day. Yet too many cats don’t get the care and kindness they deserve. At Cats Protection we stand up for every cat to make life better for cats and the people who care for them.

Story

**UPDATE:**

Due to injury I have moved the Half Marathon to **Friday 29th March 2024 at Victoria Park**. I will no longer be running Battersea Park Half on 9th March.

**

As you all know, I lost Mylo suddenly in February 2023 to hit and run and it was arguably the hardest time in my life. Mylo was there for me through a long term break up, redundancy, living by myself for the first time and a new job. He was there for me when I started my life again.

I've decided to run the Victoria Park Half Marathon on Friday 29th March 2024 in memory of him and to raise money for Cats Protection. If you know me personally, you'll know I am not a 'runner' - however after trying to run more the last 3/4 months, I thought it would be a good time to motivate myself to do this in memory of Mylo (and hopefully keep the running up!). I'll try and share updates on here to keep accountability!

Why I've chosen Cats Protection:

Cats Protection have a designated grief support service can help you in dealing with the loss of your cat. Whether you’re grieving the loss of a pet after euthanasia, your cat has gone missing or you’ve had to separate for other circumstances, a call to the Paws to Listen service may make all the difference. Whilst I didn't know about this helpline when Mylo first died, I believe I would have found it incredibly beneficial to use it and I want to raise awareness of its existence. More info here: https://www.cats.org.uk/what-we-do/grief/paws-to-listen

They also have other grief support services including guides, how to explain pet loss to children, bereavement stories and a photo wall to share pics of our loved ones. More info here: https://www.cats.org.uk/what-we-do/grief/advice

In addition, Lifeline (formerly Paws Protect) is Cats Protection's specialist cat fostering service for those fleeing domestic abuse. Cats Protection offer a free and confidential fostering service for cats whose families are fleeing domestic abuse so they can rest assured their cat will be taken care of until they can be safely reunited. Referrals are handled by a specialist and experienced team, who support owners referring to the service, arrange to collect cats, and organise foster placements through a wonderful network of dedicated Lifeline volunteers.
