Story
What's happening?
On Weds 3rd July we are doing our first summer fundraiser for many years – we feel it’s a nice way to celebrate being back as part of the community after Covid and the start of the summer.
We are going to be doing a sponsored walk/roll round Gheluvelt Park with a picnic afterwards. The theme is festival vibe as many of our clients are of an age where they would be going to festivals if they were more accessible, and our walk is being led by a fantastic drumming duo.
We would love it if you could support us - all funding goes towards running our wonderful centre.
What do we do?
The Myriad Centre is a registered charity which gives adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) the support to thrive.
All our funding goes towards creating the right environment with the right resources for our clients to attain their aspirations and live as valuable members of the community.
The Myriad Centre is everything. It has given me a new lease of life and it keeps my daughter on an even keel. Her Myriad support worker is quiet with her, calm, and listens to her. You have to listen to someone with special needs, like my daughter, and be patient. The staff do a fantastic job and when my daughter comes home, she is happy and relaxed. My daughter is more settled since she has been at Myriad and the Centre is helping me out in later life. It is a miracle to me." Kath, Parent
What is PMLD?
⭐ A profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD) refers to a complex combination of intellectual and physical disabilities that significantly affect an individual’s ability to learn, communicate, and carry out everyday tasks.
⭐ PMLD has a profound impact on a person’s communication, mobility, and independence. Since PMLD is a spectrum, each individual will have their own set of disabilities and physical, cognitive or sensory challenges.
⭐ People with PMLD are, like everyone else, unique individuals and require individualised care and support to thrive.
