The Pumping Marvellous Foundation are the UK’s patient-led Heart Failure charity. We help people to live well with Heart Failure by delivering free educational materials to NHS teams across the country, providing a peer-to-peer support group for patients, & by raising awareness on a national level.

Story

In 2010, when I was just 5 years old, our dad was diagnosed with heart failure. It was a devastating blow for our family, and we quickly realised that there was little to no support available for patients like him. That's when my dad, Nick Hartshorne-Evans, decided to take matters into his own hands and create a charity for patients, by patients, living with and getting diagnosed with heart failure.

Since the beginning, I have been actively involved in the charity, which is now known as the Pumping Marvellous Foundation (PMF). We've witnessed PMF grow from humble beginnings of bag-packing in our local ASDA to becoming a trailblazer in providing help for heart failure patients. It fills us with immense pride to be part of such an important cause.

Heart failure affects over one million people across the UK. It's a debilitating condition that can leave individuals feeling confused and isolated. But thanks to organisations like PMF, there are now thriving communities and initiatives aimed at helping people live well with heart failure. PMF also plays a crucial role in developing and distributing patient information to the majority of NHS Heart Failure Teams in the UK. The charities BEAT campaign is having tremendous success around the country in supporting and highlighting the need for early diagnosis.

However, all these efforts come at a cost. That's why I am determined to raise funds for heart failure in the most challenging way possible - by participating in the Great North Run 2024, a half marathon event that will take place on September 8th, 2024.

Although sporty in the past, its only since moving to Newcastle for university, I have taken up running seriously. This will be my first official race at this distance - the only other official race was the Manchester Junior one many years ago - but I did get to meet Brendan Foster afterwards (although I had no idea who he was!). I believe though with support and focus I can finish this and make a real difference for heart failure patients. Next step is the Brighton full marathon in April next year - hoping this doesn't put me off!

I'm therefore reaching out to you today because I need your support. Every donation counts towards my target amount. Your contribution will directly benefit heart failure patients by enabling PMF to continue its vital work.

Join me on this journey as I run for hearts! Together, let's make sure no one faces heart failure alone.
