As many people know Albus had quite a serious injury that left him paralysed and he was unable to walk for a long time. During this time he received extensive treatment from his vet and additional support from the vet physio once he was back on his paws.

We were fortunate enough to have everything fully covered by his insurance who have been amazing during this stressful time.

However not everyone is in this position which is where Dog Aid Scotland come in. They provide a Veterinary Aid Scheme for dog owners on benefits or low income facing an unexpected vet bill. This can range from an ear infection or dental surgery to a lump removal to emergency surgery for a womb infection or limb fracture. They also help also help some dogs with the cost of their ongoing medications for life-long conditions such as epilepsy, Addison’s disease, diabetes and arthritis. Their owners would otherwise struggle to pay for their medication, go without or be forced to rehome their beloved dog.

In 2025 the scheme helped 153 dogs with the cost of their treatment.

I will be running the 2026 Edinburgh Marathon to help raise money for Dog Aid Scotland so they can continue to help more families deal with unexpected vets bills in the coming years.

Anything over a 5k and I get bored so this will be a real challenge. As Albus gets stronger and more coordinated on his paws, I hope he can join in the training to make it more enjoyable.
