Story
The Salvation Army Community Centre at Winton is at the heart of the local community. The Cafe is the heart of the community centre. Here you will find people who are living alone, unable to cook or afford meals, families who are struggling, young people who need someone to talk to and a great example of the local community. The Cafe provides free food for children in the school holidays and a much needed hot meal every week for those who are homeless, temporarily housed or financially struggling.
As part of a support pathway 40 meals were given out for no charge over a six month period. On a Monday evening 1288 free meals were given out in one year alone!
See what some of our friends have said....
“I moved from Salisbury 12 years ago – I knew nobody and now I know lots of people (from coming here each week)”
“we are from a local school and use the café weekly. The students have gained confidence and independence by attending each week”
“I come here every day. I live on my own so I can come here and speak to people and have a hot meal..”
“The people are so friendly”
The Cafe is a safe haven and place of friendship for many people. Yet is is tired and in need of some urgent attention.
I am running in the Marathon to raise vital funds for this to be achieved. Your money will help to purchase new flooring, tables and chairs, new equipment and decoration.
This will then allow The Salvation Army in Winton to serve the local community for many more years to come. Thankyou.
