Story
The Great North Run is something I’ve admired for years. Every time I watched it, I’d think, “One day, I’ll do that.” But if I’m being honest, I never quite felt brave enough to take the plunge.
There was always a reason to put it off... too busy, not fit enough, maybe next year. I realised that if I kept waiting for the perfect moment, I might never do it. In October 2025 I joined a running group and absolutely loved it so made the decision, it’s now or never. I’ve signed up and I’m finally going for it, nerves and all.
What makes it even more meaningful is that I’m running in aid of Blue Cross, an amazing welfare charity whose staff and volunteers work tirelessly all year round to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. Blue Cross have been helping sick, injured, and homeless animals since 1897, helping with rehoming, education, veterinary care, behaviour support and bereavement support. Last year alone around 30 thousand animals were helped by their efforts.
This is a charity that is extremely close to my heart being a huge animal lover and they rely entirely on donations to carry out this life-changing work. Every penny raised goes towards giving animals the care, shelter, and love they deserve. By supporting my run, you’ll be helping pets who have nowhere else to turn and let this amazing cause continue all their hard, wonderful work.
This run isn’t just about crossing a finish line. It’s about facing a fear, ticking off a life-long goal and doing something that makes a real difference for animals in need. I’m excited, a bit terrified but absolutely determined. Bring on the Great North Run 2026!!
