Story

In November 2023 I lost my best pal...

Steph Ives Stevens was my wingwoman, my biggest champion and the one I did all my crazy adventures with. Steph was just 44 when she died.

Steph suffered from PMDD all her adult life, she suffered years of emotional, mental and physical pain and turmoil. Eventually Steph became so worn down, drained and unrecognisable to herself, she lost hope of things ever getting better and took her own life.

Steph is not an isolated case. Paige McCromack was just 22 years old when she took her own life. After years of door knocking, deaf ears and misdiagnoses, Paige too saw no other way out.

There are millions of women, (Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Girlfriends) who struggle with the daily grind of a life with PMDD. Women who are not listened to, who battle on alone, who are misunderstood and misdiagnosed.

PMDD is a treatable condition yet women all over the UK are not getting the support, treatment and advise they need. Doctors don't know how to deal with it, (they don't have the training) many misdiagnose the condition, offering antidepressants as a solution or suggesting exercise, rest and healthy eating to take the edge off. This is not the solution.

This condition needs to be better understood, better diagnosed and better treated. We need more training and support for medical professionals, more signposting for women and easier access to care, support and resources.

NAPS are leading the way in making this happen. NAPS is a small charity focused on big change and with your support they can push forward with their plans for dedicated GP training, research into treatment and more accessible support for women all over the UK.
