During the Summer of 2024, I will be traveling to the Southern Province of Sri Lanka for a 5 week Marine & Wildlife Conservation volunteering program with Travelteer. This Charity works closely with the Sri Lankan Environmental Department and local NGOs to create sustainable programmes. Long-term strategies have been put in place to re-generate key areas of rainforest and maintain and protect coral reefs and the marine life in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka by Travelteer as well as their volunteers.

During my time volunteering, I will be participating in multiple projects including turtle hatchery, where I will be working in a turtle sanctuary to protect and safely release hatchlings into the ocean as well as provide care to injured turtles. Furthermore, I will be participating in beach and river clean-ups in order to restore and protect natural marine habitats. To date, Travelteer has collected over 2.3 tonnes of plastic from the beaches and lagoons of Southern Sri Lanka! I will also be taking part in rainforest restoration projects in which we will be replanting indigenous trees as well as local agriculture project to grow fruit and vegetables and support various local communities. The fruit and vegetables are firstly donated to local families who are struggling to afford their own food. Secondly, the school sells these to the local community, with the profits going towards new classroom resources for local children.

The money raised will be going directly to the Travelteer charity, which is used to buy essential equipment, aid the development of the programmes and help support local communities in Sri Lanka. By donating to a you will be directly contributing to our efforts and helping us achieve our aims!
