Natalie's fundraiser for UK Sepsis Trust

Natalie Grib is raising money for UK Sepsis Trust
In memory of James Philliskirk

Peru Trek - Inca Trail to Machu Picchu · 24 January 2026

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

In 10 weeks I'll be completing a 4 day trek through Peru's Inca Trail, ending at Machu Picchu. 45km in total, with the highest point reaching 13,828 feet.

I'm raising funds for The UK Sepsis Trust in memory of my cousin Helen’s beautiful son, James Philliskirk. James was 16 months old when he died from preventable sepsis. He was a bright, cheeky little boy with a huge personality. He loved eating peas, was wonderfully self-directed, and his favourite song was The Conga.

By supporting this charity, I hope to raise awareness, fund vital education, and help ensure other lives are saved. UKST provides invaluable support for my cousin Helen and I want to ensure that this continues for her and for other families.

This trek is for James—to honour his life, his laughter, and the joy he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.

All funds raised will go directly to UKST.

Funds raised for The UK Sepsis Trust will help the charity deliver vital education and awareness campaigns so more people can recognise the signs of sepsis early and seek life-saving treatment. They also provide training and resources for healthcare professionals to improve diagnosis and care. Beyond prevention, UKST offers recovery services, and bereavement support individually and in groups.
