MyOTAS (My Own Time And Space) run Parent Support Groups to provide a kind, non-judgemental space for parents to talk. We also organise activity sessions, providing a calm environment for autistic and other neurodivergent children to make friends and gain self-confidence.

Story

My name is Natalie, I am 18 years old, and in September ran my first half marathon in London, having previously completed a number of 10K races. Completing the London Marathon is my next big challenge on my running journey.

I am autistic and am excited to support MYOTAS because of the incredible work they do within the community to help so many families, including my own.

I was diagnosed shortly before my 14th birthday after a period of significant physical and mental health challenges. At the time, I was struggling to attend school and my parents were desperately worried about me. My mum found this period particularly difficult, and she often says that MYOTAS supported her through one of the most challenging times in our lives. The advice she received through their helpline gave her the knowledge and confidence to advocate for me, helping me secure an EHCP, access flexi-schooling, and receive one-to-one online tuition alongside a reduced school timetable.

Today, I am healthy, happy, and learning to embrace and advocate for myself. Running has become an important part of that journey. It helps me stay calm, focused, and supports my emotional regulation. I have recently completed my A-levels and have been accepted to study Medicine at Barts in London, something I have dreamed of for many years.

I genuinely believe I would not be in this position today without the support MYOTAS provided to my family. The guidance they gave my mum enabled me to continue my education at a time when I could not access a traditional school environment.

The impact the charity has on families is remarkable, and I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to give something back by raising money through running the marathon.

Thank you for taking the time to read my page. I would be very grateful for any donations and your support!
