Story

Hello all, I am Natasha - a former premature baby, now a strong and fierce 23 year old woman. On the 23rd November 2000, I was born... three months early, weighing only 1lb 8oz. I had many health issues, and had to be hospitalised for months. A team of wonderful doctors and nurses helped me survive, even though all the odds were against me. Lung diseases, infections - you name it, and I probably experienced it as a prem baby. Not only that, but my sister was one too!

It is probably very well known that newborn babies need specialist, often lifesaving, medical care at birth. I know first hand that it can be a traumatic and difficult time for parents and families. Specialist charities such as the SSNAP support parents, provide funding for specialist support and medical equipment as well as fund life changing research. As a result, I want to give back. I want to something else that shows my appreciation for this charity that supported all the premature babies - including myself - 23 years later.

In May of 2023 I completed the three peaks challenge to raise money for this charity. This year, I want to go one step further. From the 31st July - 4th August, I will be tackling yet another challenge in very tough, hot conditions (nearing 40 degrees Celsius). Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa standing at 4,167m (almost 4x the height of Snowdon!).

Any donations will be much appreciated. Thank you for reading something so dear to my heart!

Adults that were once premature babies can put their mind to anything; I will be living proof of that. Let the challenge commence.

In the UK, 1 in 10 babies need specialist care at birth. SSNAP supports sick & premature babies and their families in the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Imagine your newborn baby needing specialist care at birth. Instead of those very special days getting to know your baby as a family, you’re catapulted into an unfamiliar world of incubators, wires, medical tests and interventions. While your baby has specialist treatment, we provide emotional and practical support to help you through the trauma & upheaval. We’re there to help families cope, and provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and nursing expertise that could save babies lives.
