Story
BASIC has provided counselling, information and support services for patients and their families following a brain or spinal injury. But always seeking a leadership position in support for recovery, the organisation has continually evolved under the oversight of the board of Trustees and the skills and dedication of a diverse range of team members.
From the creation of the UK’s first brain injury helpline, to the community garden, café and assisted gym. BASIC has continually aligned with the needs of clients and opportunities of forward-thinking recovery, and in 2015 installed the first public Virtual Reality Rehabilitation service.
The charity is affiliated to the Greater Manchester Clinical Neuroscience Centre and is locally focused with a national reach –with focus on person-centred recovery but also a strong influence in research and campaigning for change. They are recognised widely for our ground-breaking work including their recent success as ‘North West Charity of the Year’.
