We’re Breast Cancer Now, the charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care. We’re here for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future. By 2050, we believe everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live – and be supported to live well. But we need to act now.

Story

My mother is the strongest, most vivacious, and colourful character I know. She is everything to our family. And this race is for her.

I ran the London Marathon in 2018 for Breast Cancer Now, wanting to fundraise for a fantastic charity after my beautiful mother, and mother-in-law were both in remission from breast cancer.

Towards the end of 2023, we discovered that mum's cancer had returned and spread, she was officially diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. Now the thing about secondary breast cancer is it cannot be cured. We were absolutely devastated. But, and this is the crucial part, it is treatable and people can enjoy their lives for many years thanks to the incredible drugs and advancement of medical science. This is our only focus for mama Bradley.

Breast Cancer Now's key strategy is that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live, and be supported to live well. Everything they do is grounded in science and research and already the difference in treatments and options available to people with breast cancer now, is a different story to 10 years ago.

After London (the hottest London Marathon on record and I will NOT let anyone forget it), I said I would never run a marathon again. It's not for me, and quite frankly I don't enjoy running and my knees can't handle it. But when my sister, a week after us finding out about mum's diagnosis, messaged me and asked if I would run with her, how could I possibly say no? So here we are. Running for mama.

I truly do not find running easy, and with the toddler depriving me of sleep, and a full-time and full-on job, the struggle to juggle is real. But every single kilometre is worth it. And every single pound we can raise is worth it.

If you've got this far and are still reading, I applaud you. And thank you, your support means the absolute world to us.
