Story
This Sunday, I will be running the Windsor Half Marathon to raise money for Younger People with Dementia ( YPWD) in memory of Colin
I have been looking after Colin who is 45 yrs old and had familial CJD, a devastating inherited brain disorder that causes rapidly progressive dementia. There is currently no treatment, and it is heartbreaking for any family to face, particularly when there are young children involved.
Sadly he passed away this evening
Seeing the incredible strength of his wife, has been truly humbling. The support she and her children have received from this charity has been invaluable for them.
This will be my first half marathon since having a hip replacement, and I’m incredibly grateful to be able to run again. (All be it slowly !)
Colin had been a passionate runner who completed many half marathons himself, so I will be running for him and his family. Any donation, however small, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
YPWD provides support services throughout the working week to people with dementia who are diagnosed under the age of 65. They support families from as early as in their 30’s, who never could have foreseen that they would be living with a progressive disease so early on in their lives. The charity provides a safe and fun environment, reducing loneliness, promoting confidence, boosting mood and offering a helping hand to not just the person with dementia, but their loved ones who are coming to terms with the illness.
