ANDYSMANCLUB facilitates groups where men aged 18 and above can speak openly about their issues in a non judgmental environment through shared experiences. Groups run nationwide every Monday 7pm except bank holidays and are completely volunteer-led with no charge to any man.

Story

Here goes, my story… Why does ANDYSMANCLUB mean so much to me?

A few months ago now, I was at my absolute lowest, I didn’t want to get out of bed, never mind do any form of self care. I truly disgusted myself and couldn’t see it getting any better and wasn’t driven to do anything about it.

I started cut things off with the people I cared for, pushed people away for what I thought was for their own good, I was on my path to self-destruction and saw no other way out of these feelings and thoughts than to forcefully stop them through extreme measures, sadly.

I’ve always been a huge advocate for AMC, always recommending to mates but never taking my own advice, but in my lowest moment I was supported and was able to truly open up without judgement, for the first time in my life really I was able to talk to someone about my feelings openly without the worry that came from growing up with the stereotypes of “boys don’t cry” and “man up”.

I don’t say this lightly, but ANDYSMANCLUB truly saved my life that day.

So from that, you’re probably thinking why on earth I’ve signed up to a 5k… same actually. A few months ago I’d walk up the stairs and be completely out of breath with a heart rate through the roof, needing to lay back down. Now I’m embracing myself, bettering myself, and overall finding myself again. Hit 2.5k yesterday and it’s the best I’ve felt about myself in a long time. It’s not much, but for me it’s a huge milestone.

I need to spread the word that #ITSOKAYTOTALK as much as I can because there will be men out there who are feeling like I was. If by seeing my T-Shirt on the run, I can get just one person that’s not 100% to go to a group and feel a bit better, I’d know I’ve done my bit.

So, on that note, if you have any money that you can donate to support the work that AMC do, that’d be amazing, and I’ll keep sharing my journey with you all. 👌🏼
