Story
It may come as no surprise but i’ve not always been the most active person or someone who's particularly prioritised my own health and fitness.
Running a half marathon certainly isn't something I'd have imagined myself doing a year ago but here we go! The past few months, following a health scare at the start of the year, I’m making a conscious effort to change all of that.
I’m currently coming towards the end of training for my first 5K in many years and to hold myself accountable, I’ve signed up for my first half marathon in April 2027, my goal after that is to hopefully do a full marathon the following year, one step at a time eh. Thankfully quitting smoking earlier this year has made this process already a lot easier!
There’s also an extremely personal reason behind all of this too. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has had a devastating impact on my family.
Both my Mum and Dad live with the disease which has sadly taken so much away from their quality of lives. My stepmum also lived with MS and tragically passed away due to complications from the disease.
I've seen first hand just how cruel and debilitating MS can be and the impact it has not only on those living with it but on the people who love them too.
I'm incredibly fortunate to have the ability to get out, move and challenge myself physically, something that MS has taken away from people so close to me. That's not something I can take for granted anymore.
So, on 4th April 2027, I'll be taking on 13.1 miles during the London Landmark Half Marathon to raise money for MS research via the MS Society and to hopefully support those living with the disease.
I've set myself a fundraising target of £2,000! Any donation, big or small, would genuinely mean the absolute world and I’ll promise to try and not get in any calamitous situations on the run up to the….. run.
Thank you so much for your support.
Nathan
