Raising funds for Haemochromatosis UK in memory of Phil & Janet
In aid of Haemochromatosis UK I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world; scaling & descending 5,895 m over 7 days.
Haemochromatosis is a condition that has impacted my family & I will be doing this climb in memory of my Dad, Phil Wood and his twin sister Janet Hartley who both suffered from the condition.
Haemochromatosis is a hereditary condition in which iron levels in the body slowly build up over many years. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Celtic Curse’ due to its prevalence in Celtic bloodlines, the condition is known as a 'silent killer', often going undiagnosed because it can be asymptomatic or have nonspecific symptoms. If left untreated, the condition can lead to serious health problems, including liver and heart disease, diabetes, and an increased risk of liver cancer.
Your contribution will help Haemochromatosis UK continue their vital work in raising awareness, providing support, and funding research to improve the lives of the individuals and families impacted by this condition.
My employer Chivas Brothers will also be supporting my fundraising efforts with a contribution to the charity. Any contributions that you could make would be greatly appreciated.
Wish me luck!
