Story
Hi, I'm Nathan and in 2026, I’ll be proudly running the London Marathon for Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity. But this isn’t just a race! It’s a celebration of survival, transformation and giving back.
In recent years, I’ve faced one of the toughest battles of my life. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, a debilitating inflammatory bowel disease. During the COVID pandemic, I had to shield due to a weakened immune system caused by multiple immunosuppressants. I worked from home for a long period and the side effects of steroids led me to gain over 4 stone, which deeply affected my physical and mental health.
Between 2020 and 2021, I was admitted to hospital 10 times. Eventually, my condition became life threatening and I underwent life saving stoma surgery called a Proctocolectomy which was a permanent change that ultimately gave me a second chance at life.
At the start of 2024, I made a decision to reclaim my health. Through running and healthy eating, I lost all the weight I had gained and rediscovered my strength both physically and mentally. I now feel like a much fitter and more positive man.
This journey inspired me to give back. I became a volunteer and trustee for Enlighten the Shadows, a local men’s mental health charity supporting men across Nottinghamshire and beyond. I also lead a weekly men’s running club around Mansfield Reservoir, helping others find healing through movement and community.
Last year, I ran the Nottingham Half Marathon which was a huge milestone for me. And now, I’ve been selected to run the London Marathon in support of Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity, helping improve patient care for others going through their own health journeys.
Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity plays a vital role in elevating patient care, while also supporting the dedicated staff, patients, and essential services that strive for excellence every single day. Their work makes a meaningful difference in countless lives including mine. Every donation you make helps transform care, offers hope and save lives, just as mine was saved.
Please support me in reaching my fundraising target. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help Sherwood Forest Hospitals continue to provide exceptional care to those who need it most.
Together, we can turn pain into purpose and every mile I run will be powered by your generosity.
Thank you for believing in me and this incredible cause!
