North Berwick Youth Project is fundraising for the residential trip of a lifetime! 10 young people and 2 Youth Workers plan to set sail on a 5 day voyage with Ocean Youth Trust Scotland in August 2024. OYT voyages help young people to discover their potential through the adventure of youth work on the waves.

Rather than just simply teaching which rope to pull, or how to tighten a life jacket (which they do as well), sail training is about giving young people the skills needed to be part of a team, while facing fears and challenges. Not only will this be an incredible life experience for young people, it will also offer them the opportunity to gain qualifications.

OYT Scotland is an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Training Centre and aim to give everybody who sails with them their RYA Start Yachting Certificate which is the first rung on the ladder to becoming a skipper of a sailing boat. Young people will also gain a SCQF level 3 Core Skills and an OYT Scotland Voyage Completion Certificate.

As NBYP is a charity, we are raising as much money as possible to help cover the costs of the voyage in order to take away any barriers to young people accessing an opportunity like this, but to also ensure that young people have everything they need eg sleeping bags, toiletries etc. Young people would also like to design a team hoody which will give them a sense of togetherness, as well as being a great keep sake of their time on this life changing challenge.
