Story
The North East Fire and Rescue Boxing Team is proud to be raising funds for Stand By Benny at our boxing tournament at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle.
Benny is a happy, kind and football mad four year old who loves dinosaurs, Ninja Turtles and Newcastle United. In February 2023, shortly after his second birthday, he was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer.
After two years of intensive treatment, Benny completed his frontline treatment in March 2025. Sadly, later that year his family received the devastating news that his cancer had returned.
With treatment options in the UK limited following his relapse, Benny’s family began fundraising to access potentially life-saving CAR T-cell therapy in Rome. Benny has now received his CAR T-cell treatment, which is a hugely important step in his journey, but it is still very early days.
Benny remains an outpatient in Rome and continues to require several trips each month as part of his ongoing care and treatment. There is still a long road ahead for Benny and his family, and the costs associated with accessing treatment overseas and travelling regularly to Rome remain significant.
That is why we are stepping into the ring for Stand By Benny.
Every donation made through this page will contribute to the wider Stand By Benny campaign, helping to support Benny and his family as they continue this journey.
Whether you are attending the tournament, supporting one of our boxers, or simply want to get behind an incredibly brave little boy and his family, every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference.
Thank you for getting behind the North East Fire and Rescue Boxing Team and, most importantly, for helping us Stand By Benny.
