Story
The Freedom Project is the only organisation offering free, long-term, community-based support in West Cumbria as part of its mission to help stop domestic and sexual abuse.
We work with perpetrators, victims, families and children, and have supported over 10,000 individuals during our 22 years. Referrals last year increased by 57%.
We work closely with schools, GPs, Victim Support, the police, probation services, social workers and HAWCs, helping to provide coordinated support for individuals and families affected by abuse.
Our services include a helpline, one-to-one and group counselling for anyone aged 5 and over, alongside specialist support for adults and children affected by abusive relationships. We also provide ongoing support for people while they are on our waiting list, as well as family court support and training.
The Freedom Project receives no statutory funding and relies entirely on grants and donations, including vital support from local charities, businesses and the wider community. This generosity enables us to continue providing our services free of charge to those who need them.
