Westmorland Miles for Minds Walk · 14 May 2026 ·

Growing Well is a mental health charity, which delivers a professional support service to individuals and communities across Cumbria. Based from three commercial scale fruit and vegetable growing sites; near Kendal, in West Cumbria and at Tebay Services.

Story

On Thursday 14 May 2026, during Mental Health Awareness Week, I’m joining the Westmorland Family ‘Miles for Minds’ sponsored walk — 21 miles on waymarked footpaths from Tebay Services to Rheged.

Growing Well is a therapeutic horticulture charity based right at our Tebay Services site. They offer a free, year-long mental health recovery programme where people volunteer in the market garden one day a week, growing the salads and vegetables you’ll find in our Farmshop. Since 2004 they’ve supported thousands of people across Cumbria, and their programme has an incredible 68% success rate to full recovery — offering a real alternative when NHS waiting lists are stretched.

This inaugural walk brings together Westmorland colleagues, suppliers, friends and Growing Well supporters with a collective aim of raising £20,000 to support Growing Well’s core costs at Tebay, where they support over 100 people each year.

My personal target is £1,000. Any donation, however small, makes a real difference.
