The Great Guinness World Record Gumboot Run

Neil Johnson is raising money for The Farming Community Network

ABP Newport Half Marathon · 19 April 2026

The Farming Community Network (FCN) is a charity and voluntary organisation that supports farmers and families within the farming community through difficult times, whether the issue is personal or business related. Our confidential national helpline is open every day of the year from 7am-11pm.

Story

I'm fundraising for the Farming Community Network Wales/Cymru region, with a bid to set a Guinness World Record running a half marathon in wellington/gumboots! I'll be running with my boots on at the ABP Newport Half Marathon on 19th April 2026.

Farming is tough, and it can take a huge toll on people's lives - too many times resulting in serious crises for those who own, run and work on farms. Issues are typically mental health related, financial, relational, the list goes on. In ways that are sometimes extreme, it gets too much for individuals and families. And regular government policy and market changes these days makes it even tougher.

As a farmer myself, I want to do something positive and exciting for farmers, and to highlight a great charity that does amazing work to help make a real difference.

The Farming Community Network (FCN) organises an amazing team of volunteers who help farmers get the right professional help to get in a better place.

FCN Cymru/Wales area manager Linda Jones says:

“I would like to sincerely thank Neil not only for his fundraising effort for FCN Cymru, but also for his commitment to raise awareness for the work we undertake. As Welsh agriculture undergoes significant change, FCN Cymru is uniquely placed to support people across the industry on this journey. We provide a listening ear and help the farming community to develop resilience, manage change and prepare for the future.  Neil’s fundraising effort for us will help staff and volunteers in Wales to be able to continue providing support to farming families who need us.”

“Hoffwn ddiolch yn ddiffuant i Neil, nid yn unig am ei ymdrech i godi arian dros FCN Cymru, ond hefyd am ei ymrwymiad i godi ymwybyddiaeth o’r gwaith rydym yn ei wneud. Wrth i amaethyddiaeth Cymru fynd trwy gyfnod o newid sylweddol, mae FCN Cymru mewn sefyllfa unigryw i gefnogi pobl ledled y diwydiant ar y daith hon. Rydym yn cynnig clust i wrando ac yn helpu’r gymuned amaethyddol i ddatblygu gwydnwch, ymateb i newidiadau a pharatoi ar gyfer y dyfodol. Bydd ymdrech Neil i godi arian i ni yn helpu i sicrhau y bydd staff a gwirfoddolwyr yng Nghymru yn gallu parhau i roi cymorth i deuluoedd amaethyddol sydd ei angen.”
